What do Malabar mushrooms look like?

Older cultivation archives state that the original Malabar line came from specimens collected on the Malabar Coast. In addition, these early descriptions emphasized its ability to fruit in comparatively warm conditions.
The line later circulated internationally through mushroom cultivation communities and became known simply as Malabar or Malabar Coast Psilocybe cubensis.
However, modern mushroom strain names do not operate like scientifically registered cultivars. Therefore, commercial Malabar genetics from different sources may not all be genetically identical.
The Malabar Coast origin is consistently reported in cultivation archives, but a complete publicly available scientific genetic pedigree for the modern commercial strain is not available.
Why freeze dry Malabar mushrooms?
Traditional dehydration generally removes moisture through circulating air and sometimes additional heat. Freeze drying works differently. First, fresh Malabar mushrooms freeze. Then, low pressure removes frozen water through sublimation.
As a result, freeze drying creates an extremely dry and porous whole mushroom with a lightweight, crisp texture. In addition, the process helps retain more of the fruiting body’s original physical structure.
